Working in Retail & eCommerce

What is the Retail & eCommerce industry?

Retail & eCommerce is a vast sector, referring to companies and individuals that buy and sell goods or services in a physical store location or online store. Ecommerce operates in different types of market segments and can be conducted over computers, tablets, smartphones, and other smart devices. Nearly every imaginable product and service is available including clothing, accessories, beauty products, books, music, plane tickets, and financial services.

What types of roles are needed in the Retail & eCommerce industry?

Retail stores require a number of employees or highly versatile employees to accomplish all aspects to service customers including: receiving, stocking, display/merchandising, customer service/sales, cashier, and maintenance.

Ecommerce is more complex, as customers need to be made aware of the website to visit it. Marketing is a key position, utilizing a variety of tactics online and offline to show products and share the website address. An online business requires digital representations of the products along with a written description that helps a customer decide if they want to process. The ‘user experience’ is very important, which refers to how easy a customer can shop on the site and check out at the point of purchase. Additionally, it is very important that the fulfillment of the purchase gets to the customer in a timely manner. All online stores hope to create returning customers, so customer service and promotions are extremely important as well.
